My name is Ish Villegas and I am the United States Air Force Combat Controller assigned to US Special Operations Command Care Coalition based at San Antonio Military Medical Center as a Care Coalition Liaison. While on a mission in Afghanistan, I was wounded on my 10th deployment as a result of close proximity to a blast where I suffered a TBI and damage to my right eye leaving a partial loss of sight.
I grew up in Del Rio Texas and entered active duty in August of 1997. I graduated from Combat Control School in August 1999, Pope AFB NC. My assignments include bases in North Carolina, England, San Antonio TX, and Florida. I also served overseas in Germany, Africa, and South America. I have multiple combat deployments to Iraq and Afghanistan in support of the Global War on Terrorism.
A friend who knew about this organization referred me to Jeep Sullivan’s Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventures, Inc and I was invited to a deer hunt in Mississippi.
I have been involved in two hunts with Jeep Sullivan’s Wounded Warrior Outdoor Adventures, Inc. I just recently attended a very successful Pronghorn hunt in New Mexico. I don’t have a family but it does allow me to help feed my sister’s family as well as keep the grocery bills down on meat.
Therapeutically I can’t say enough about what this organization does. It’s great comfort being around other veterans and patriots. It’s a vacation and a rest from the everyday struggles of work and life. I leave these trips feeling rejuvenated and I really enjoy meeting new people and making new friends.
